Lampard missed the penalty for the first time this season

Frank Lampard had a penalty saved, but Florent Malouda's first-half strike and Didier Drogba's second-half penalty were more than enough to seal the victory that sends them back above Arsenal, following the Gunners' win at Blackburn earlier on Saturday.

John Terry brought the ball forward and slipped a pass between the two centre-backs for Malouda to latch on to, and the Frenchman stabbed the ball past Thomas Sorensen.

Drogba then doubled the lead and, like Malouda, bagged his fourth of the season on 77 minutes. Nicolas Anelka won the spot-kick when he sprinted after a long ball over the top and beat Sorensen to the punch. The Danish keeper elected not to dive at the striker's feet, but his attempt at a tackle still tripped the Frenchman over and referee Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot. Drogba succeeded where Lampard had earlier failed by hammering the dead ball into the top corner as the keeper dived the wrong way.

The Blues could have been ahead from 12 yards much earlier after Ryan Shawcross brought down Malouda in the area after just 10 minutes. Lampard placed the ball on the penalty spot but, just as in May's FA Cup final and England's pre-World Cup friendly against Japan, he failed to convert, his low strike hit too close to Sorensen. At the time, six of the last eight Premier League penalties Sorensen had faced were either missed or saved, though Drogba's strike would later put a dent in that record.

That penalty came after an open first 10 minutes in which Dean Whitehead's low strike forced a save from Petr Cech, Jon Walters's effort landed on the roof of the net and Ashley Cole saw his shot trickle wide of the far post.

Rooney bagged his first strike since the end of March after 33 minutes when the excellent Ryan Giggs nipped past former United defender Jonathan Spector and into the box, forcing him to make the foul. Rooney took an unorthodox run-up, skipping several steps to the side before rolling the ball into the bottom corner with Robert Green diving the other way.

Polis P.Pinang tubuh pasukan khas siasat isu khutbah

GEORGETOWN: Polis Pulau Pinang menubuhkan satu pasukan khas bagi menyiasat isu kejadian khatib yang didakwa menggantikan nama Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin kepada nama Ketua Menteri Lim Guan Eng, dalam doa khutbah kedua solat Jumaat.

Ketua Polis negeri, Datuk Ayub Yaakob berkata, polis negeri sudah menerima dua laporan mengenai isu itu iaitu yang pertama dibuat di Balai Polis Butterworth dan satu lagi di Balai Polis Tasek Gelugor dalam daerah Seberang Perai Utara.

Pesawat patah tiga di sambar petir

BOGOTA - Sebuah jet penumpang terhempas semasa mendarat dalam cuaca ribut di Pulau San Andres, Colombia, kelmarin menyebabkan seorang penumpang terbunuh manakala 114 lagi cedera, kata pihak berkuasa tempatan.

Pesawat jenis Boeing 737-700 milik syarikat penerbangan tempatan, Aires itu membawa 121 penumpang dan enam krew.

Semasa kejadian, pesawat itu terhempas di landasan semasa petir dan angin kencang.

"Pesawat itu tiba dari Bogota dan mendarat semasa ribut petir," kata seorang pegawai tentera udara Colombia, Kolonel Gustavo Barrero.

Semua mangsa cedera telah dihantar ke beberapa buah hospital tempatan untuk rawatan.

"Juruterbang pesawat tersebut memberitahu kami pesawat tersebut disambar petir. Kami sedang memeriksa bangkai pesawat untuk mengenal pasti tahap kerosakannya dan punca nahas itu berlaku," kata timbalan pengarah sebuah agensi pihak berkuasa penerbangan Colombia, Donald Tascon.

Pihak berkuasa pula memberitahu, pesawat tersebut patah tiga ketika ia cuba mendarat di Lapangan Terbang Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, Pulau San Andreas.

Premier League - Cole sees red as Arsenal nick draw

Reina bundled the ball comically into his own net in the 90th minute to gift Arsenal a point, after David Ngog gave Liverpool the lead in the first minute of the second half.

Cole's Premier League debut for Liverpool went horribly wrong when he was shown a straight red card in first-half stoppage time, after launching himself unnecessarily at Laurent Koscielny close to the corner flag.

He missed the ball by a mile and scissored the Frenchman's standing leg. Malicious or not, it was a desperately bad tackle and he could have little complaint when Martin Atkinson showed the red card.

Koscielny was stretchered off, sparking fears of another long-term Arsenal injury, but the defender made a quick recovery and returned for the second half - and he was also sent off for two yellow cards, both picked up in second-half injury time.

Arsenal were no saints, particularly Jack Wilshere who started four days after making his England debut. The 18-year-old was booked for a late front-on challenge on Javier Mascherano, and might have received his marching orders had he made more contact with the Argentine.

The fouls were the major talking points of a game that took some time to get going. World Cup finalists Fernando Torres and Robin van Persie were on the bench, while Cesc Fabregas was not even in the squad.

Roy Hodgson trusted Ngog to lead the line on his own, and the 21-year-old had looked entirely unthreatening until presented with his chance just a minute after the break.

Mascherano slid a simple ball down the right channel, Ngog got half a yard in front of Vermaelen and lashed a powerful shot into the top right corner.

It was a decent shot, but Manuel Almunia should not have been beaten from that angle. Yet more evidence that the Spaniard continues to undermine Arsenal's hopes of silverware. The sooner Mark Schwarzer arrives at the Emirates from Fulham the better for the Gunners.

Despite their numerical inferiority, Liverpool continued to dominate after going in front. Martin Skrtel headed a Steven Gerrard free-kick over when well-placed, while Ngog also missed a header.

Arsenal sorely lacked their usual zip in midfield, and the second-half introductions of Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Robin van Persie made little difference.

Arsene Wenger needs captain Fabregas back to give structure, speed and imagination to a side that simply ran out of ideas in the final third.

The visitors eventually caused a few scares late on as Rosicky brought a fine save from Reina after exchanging passes neatly with Van Persie.

But it took an epic clanger from Reina to give Arsenal their equaliser. The Spaniard misjudged a cross, allowing Marouane Chamakh to bundle the ball against the post.

It bounced back to apparent safety, but as Reina attempted to collect the ball he could only scoop it into his own net. An uncharacteristic and costly error.

A frantic final few minutes saw Gerrard go close with a free-kick, while Koscielny saw red for a high challenge on Dirk Kuyt and a handball. Tremendous entertainment to finish, but on this form neither side will be genuine title contenders.

Step Up 3D 2010

Premier League - Santos to report 'intolerable' Chelsea

Santos have already turned down two official offers for the 18-year-old, who scored on hisBrazil debut in a 2-0 friendly win away to the United States on Tuesday, including one from Chelsea last month for 20 million euros.

The Brazilian club said they would only release Neymar for 35 million euros, the cost of rescinding his contract.

"The English club presented us with a formal proposal some time back after having begun direct talks with the player and his representatives," Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro said.

"We refused it and made it clear we had no interest in negotiating the economic rights of this player who is under contract to Santos," he told reporters at the club.

"I found out that the siege continued. That's intolerable in view of the ethics that must govern relations between the clubs of world football," he added in his remarks posted on the club website.

"In accordance with FIFA norms, Santos will defend their interests to prevent this type of attitude contrary to (such) principles."

Santos said their lawyers were preparing a document on the issue to send to FIFA, probably on Friday.

West Ham United have also made a bid for the striker of 15 million euros that was also rejected by Santos.

Neymar is one of the biggest talents to have emerged in Brazilian football recently, shining alongside Robinho and Paulo Henrique Ganso at Santos this season.

He scored 14 goals in 19 matches as Santos won the season-opening Paulista (Sao Paulo) state championship and a remarkable 11 in eight games to help them win the Copa Brasil.

There was fan and media pressure in Brazil for Dunga to pick Neymar for the World Cup in South Africa but the coach did not include him in the squad that was knocked out by Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
